Library Aide

Job Title: Library Aide

Classification: Part-Time

Reports To: Circulation Supervisor

Primary Responsibility:

 

The primary responsibility of the library aide is to serve the patron of the Tonganoxie Public Library.  This position requires knowing the library’s services and access to materials for any patron of all ages with diverse backgrounds and abilities.  In addition, this position requires knowing the library’s policies and procedures relative to the responsibilities and tasks assigned.

 

Nature and Scope of Duties:

 

  • Provides direct assistance to patrons of all ages with basic information regarding the use of library materials, equipment, and services
  • Uses computer to assist patrons with loans and returns of library items while providing cheerful customer service
  • Assists with collection maintenance as part of regular duties
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and may be asked to attend professional library conferences, workshops, webcasts, seminars, and read professional literature
  • Knows and implements opening and closing procedures for the library as well keeps the building in good appearance at all times
  • Promotes all services and programs of the library
  • Identifies and implements emergency procedures when appropriate
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor

 

Education/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • Library work experience preferred
  • Ability to use integrated library system preferred
  • Must have the ability to communicate, read, write, compute, and use computers and other office equipment such as telephone, copier, FAX, scanning, and knowledge of Microsoft Office products

Physical Demands and Abilities:

 

  • Must be able to lift and carry bags of books or boxes weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Must possess physical mobility involving bending, reading, climbing, and hearing
  • Must possess visual abilities which include but not limited to close/distance vision and ability to adjust focus

Hours/Benefits:

  • Part-time position (15 to 30 hours per week)
  • Salary starts at $8.00/hour depending on qualifications
  • The schedule will require late evenings, early mornings, and/or weekends
