Job Title: Summer Reading Program Aide

Classification: Temporary, Part-Time

Reports To: Children’s Librarian

Primary Responsibility:

The Summer Reading Program Aide supports the Children’s Librarian by facilitating engaging activities for children and teens and ensuring positive interactions with children and families. This role requires effective public service skills, ability to work in collaboration with other library employees, and the capability to assist in various programmatic and operational tasks.

Duration and Compensation:

  • Temporary position: May 1st – July 19th
  • 20 hours per week, $13.52/hour
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-2:00 pm or 2:00 pm-6:00 pm, with some weekend flexibility

Nature and Scope of Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Children’s Librarian to deliver the Summer Reading Program
  • Facilitate children and teen programs, including outdoor pop-up/drop-in events
  • Manage summer reading registrations and track participation
  • Assist in the daily operation of the Children’s library services, including free meal service
  • Engage positively with kids and families, distribute activities, prizes, and snacks
  • Document summer events through photos and videos
  • Perform other duties as required to support the library’s summer programming

Education/Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new technologies
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work in outdoor summer conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds

Physical Demands and Abilities:

  • Must possess physical mobility to work outdoors, set up event equipment, and interact actively with children and families
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including potential weekend events
